Year 2 enjoyed a fantastic, fun-filled afternoon bringing their Great Fire of London topic to life through hands-on Design and Technology activities with Mrs Wall.
The children became little builders as they set about constructing a traditional wattle and daub wall — an age-old building method used at the time of the Great Fire of London. They carefully wove sticks together to create the “wattle” framework before rolling up their sleeves and mixing a very messy but effective combination of soil, straw and water to make the “daub,” which was then plastered on to hold everything in place.
Not only did this give the pupils a real insight into how homes were built in the past, but it also sparked lots of teamwork, problem-solving and laughter along the way!
The children loved every moment — from getting their hands muddy to proudly standing back and admiring their creations. It was a wonderful opportunity for learning outside the classroom, and Year 2 should be very proud of their enthusiasm and effort.
