1877

The Ryleys School was founded in 1877 by a Mr William Thomas Williams in the year in which Queen Victoria became the Empress of India.

1939

The Headmaster during the Second World War, Mr Woodhouse, kept the school open. Boys sheltered in the cellars as bombers returning from Manchester would jettison unused incendiary bombs on the gardens and fields around Alderley Edge.

1963

Within the school tie is a blue stripe, a nod to Harden House, a local prep school (on the Harden Park site, Alderley Edge) which merged with The Ryleys School in 1963/1964.

2010

Today, the share of boys and girls is approx 50:50, but until 2010 The Ryleys School only allowed boys. The school became Co-Ed in 2010 and has never looked back since.

2023

Thriving and growing, The Ryleys School welcomes more pupils now than in any year in its past. Accepting pupils from age 1 to 11, every year another generation of Rylesians are welcomed and another group of Alumni continue on their exciting journeys.

We are the experts in preparing children for
senior school.

The Ryleys School prides itself on the quality of the guidance it offers parents when it comes to choosing the right senior school for your child.

We are highly successful in gaining places for children at their chosen senior school.

With the end goal being entry into the most popular senior schools, our curriculum is designed and developed so that the foundations are laid early on in our pupils’ education, with preparation becoming more rigorous as the children move through each year, culminating in focused examination preparation in Year 5 and 6.

It is a formula devised over many years to enable children to access the right school for them.

We work very closely with parents to listen to which schools they would like their children to apply for and offer informed guidance on which schools we believe your child will enjoy and excel in.
