Phonics Explained

Phonics

Phonics at The Ryleys School, Alderley Edge, a private school in CheshirePhonics involves matching the sounds of spoken English with individual letters or groups of letters. For example, the sound k can be spelled as c, k, ck, or ch.

This week we held a ‘Phonics Explained’ meeting for our Early Years parents. Thank you to all who attended. This provided the opportunity for information to be given on how we deliver both phonics and early reading skills across our Early Years rooms.

In Nursery we primarily focus on developing the children’s listening and attention skills so that they have the foundations in place for future learning as they progress through the school. We participate in group time activities such as singing, dancing and story times as well as listening games such as ‘shake and play’ and ‘tap sticks’.
