Our House Point System – Building Pride, Effort and Community

Our House Point system sits at the heart of school life and is carefully designed to recognise effort, attitude and contribution across the whole community. Every pupil and every member of staff belongs to one of four Houses — Elstob, Hoyle, Waterhouse and Wilson — each named in honour of former pupils who served during the Second World War. Each House has its own colour, and pupils proudly wear their House badge as a symbol of belonging.

Throughout the term, pupils can earn House Points for a wide range of positive behaviours and achievements. These might include academic effort, such as earning full marks in a spelling test, or contributing to school life by helping to set up or tidy away after an event. Progress is recognised along the way, with certificates awarded at key milestones such as 100 and 200 House Points.

At the end of each term, points are totalled and the winning House enjoys a special shared reward. Importantly, the system encourages pupils of different ages to work together, support one another and feel part of something bigger than their own class. It is a powerful way of fostering responsibility, motivation and a strong sense of community — values that sit firmly at the core of our educational approach.

Well done to Elstob for winning last term—we hope you all enjoyed your ‘Own Clothes’ Day this week.
