The Ryleys School Appoints Mr Giles Puckle as New Headteacher
The Ryleys School is delighted to announce the appointment of Mr Giles Puckle as Headteacher, effective from September 2026.
Moving from his current role at Bute House Preparatory School in London, Mr Puckle brings over 20 years of experience in preparatory education, having held various senior leadership roles. His extensive experience, combined with a fresh and forward-looking perspective, made a strong impression during a rigorous recruitment process that attracted a high calibre of applicants from across the UK.
Throughout the selection process, Mr Puckle’s commitment to a values-based education—where every child is known, supported, and encouraged to achieve their very best—resonated strongly with pupils, staff, and governors alike.
Commenting on his appointment, Mr Puckle said:
"I am deeply honoured and delighted to have been appointed as the next Headteacher of The Ryleys School. From my first visit to the school, I was struck by the genuine warmth of the community and the strong foundations that are already in place here. I look forward to working alongside staff, pupils, and families, determined to build on the outstanding all-round education The Ryleys School offers."
The Governors would also like to extend their sincere thanks to Mrs Julia Langford for her exceptional leadership as Headteacher.
Under her guidance, The Ryleys School has continued to grow and thrive, successfully navigating a challenging period for the independent school sector while maintaining a supportive, happy and high-achieving environment for pupils and staff.

To ensure a smooth transition, Mr Puckle and Mrs Langford will work closely together over the coming months as part of a detailed handover process. This will allow continuity for pupils and families, while also providing opportunities for the school community to meet Mr Puckle ahead of his official start.
Looking ahead, the summer term promises to be full of exciting opportunities. The opening of the outdoor heated pool will introduce early morning swim clubs, galas, kayaking, and water polo as part of the seasonal curriculum.
Pupils can also look forward to a range of enriching experiences, including the prep school production of Mamma Mia, the inaugural Ryleys Fest on 6 June, electric kit car racing at some of the UK’s most prestigious tracks, and a wide variety of activities through the Inspiring Young Minds programme.
The academic year will conclude with a celebration of Year 6 pupils as they transition to a selection of the North West’s leading senior schools, each carefully chosen to reflect individual strengths and aspirations.
Further investment announcements are planned in the coming months, marking an exciting new chapter for the school. With a vibrant calendar, a committed leadership team, and a clear vision for the future, The Ryleys School continues to offer a confident, forward-looking, and enriching educational experience.
Parents and families will have the opportunity to meet Mr Puckle during the summer term, and the school warmly invites the community to join in welcoming him and his family to Alderley Edge and The Ryleys School.
