From The Head - Friday 11 September 2026
Dear Parents,
This morning I had the great pleasure of hosting my first Celebrtion Assembly at The Ryleys, upholding what I understand to be a long-standing tradition here. It was a lovely way to start the day, with pupils, staff and parents coming together to enjoy successes across the school this week.
What I loved, as teachers sent me their suggestions, was the range of achievements they wanted to be recognised: using excellent manners, attitudes towards work, creative writing, learning phrases in a foreign language - the list goes on. It was evident that the staff value recognising achievement across all areas of school life, which is pivotal in ensuring every child feels seen and valued. One recurring theme in the certificates this week was the word ‘kind’ or ‘kindness’; there is no better character trait for us to be celebrating so visibly, so early in the year.
This week also saw the start of our clubs programme, which adds an extra dimension to the children's daily experience. From circus skills to kayaking and early morning swimming club, it has been lovely to watch the pupils throw themselves so wholeheartedly into these activities.
As I am writing this, preparations are taking place for the ‘Welcome Back Event’ this afternoon. I would like to say a particular thank you to our Social Committee for all of the hard work that has gone into organising this. Events like these do a great deal more than it might appear to on the surface; they bring pupils, parents and staff together outside of the usual rhythm of the school day, and it is exactly this kind of gathering that underpins the warm, positive community atmosphere we all value so much at The Ryleys.
