Pupils automatically continue their journey from our Pre-Reception into our Pre-Prep department. This is a secure and nurturing environment in which children are encouraged to pursue high academic standards. To help achieve this, great importance is placed on the pastoral care with individual attention for each child ensuring that they are eager and happy to enter school each day.
We are housed in our own purpose-built building, where we embrace the best of modern education while maintaining the traditions of the school's heritage. Our class sizes are small, with low pupil to adult ratios, allowing us to maximize the learning taking place and to deliver a more personal, stimulating and enriching curriculum. There are two parallel classes in each year group. The children gain a solid understanding in literacy and numeracy with an emphasis on developing their independent thinking, ensuring that each child’s individual needs are met and that high standards of teaching and learning are taking place within all the classrooms.
Pupils are taught all of the subjects via creative curriculum enabling us to explore the children’s interests, while offering a comprehensive and exciting curriculum. Specialist teachers from the Prep department teach Music, French, P.E. and Art each week while a local dance and drama teacher visits each year group every week.
Within the Pre-Prep building we have our own learning support teacher who can offer extra support to children who require further consolidation or extension of the skills being learnt in the classroom. Work is undertaken both in the classroom and on an individual basis.
We encourage a very positive home / school partnership as we believe that a strong communication with parents is paramount. Parents are encouraged to bring their children in each morning ensuring that they are settled for the day ahead; while staff are always available to discuss any important matters. Parents are informed of their child’s progress via an academic profile that is updated and re-issued to parents each half term. There are two Parents’ Evenings each year and parents receive a full end of year report in the summer term.
We take pride in the achievements of all our pupils and encourage them to have a positive attitude towards their learning as well as to themselves and to each other. Each year group has their own reward system, which runs alongside the whole school house system, plus the weekly Pre-Prep teachers awards. As a school we join together each week to celebrate individual and whole class accomplishments and we encourage parents to be part of that celebration.
In the Pre-Prep department, children enjoy a varied and extensive extra-curricular programme. Children’s interests and hobbies are used as starting points to provide a real breadth of opportunities and experiences. Our after school activities are also seasonal with additional clubs being introduced each term to fit in with the curriculum and weather. Clubs may include ballet, tennis, construction, computer programming, handwriting, football, Spanish, jewellery making, nature, cake decorating and gymnastics.
In the Ryleys Pre-Prep we are one big happy family with happy children being at the very heart of our school and what we do.
I would like to say a whole heartedly warm and genuine thank you to Mrs Berry and Mrs Willet for making my daughter's first week in reception a happy, kind and caring experience.
It's a scary time for a parent to send her child to a new place with new people without us being there, however she has come home with the most wonderful stories and comments about you both and the school.
Most importantly each and every single night she has come home smiling, In return this has given us the biggest smiles of all!!
