The superb facilities at The Ryleys include 8 acres of sports fields, which offer quality football pitches, rugby pitches, athletics facilities and cricket squares. In addition, we have a brand new all-weather, floodlit hockey pitch which is nearing completion. There is a 5-a-side AstroTurf pitch, fully equipped gymnasium and outdoor heated swimming pool.

Head of PE and Games, Mr Paul Jakubowski, highlights both the quality of the  various sports teams and the opportunities for all pupils to participate fully in curricular and extra-curricular sport. The Ryleys School is very proud of its ability to combine maximum participation with professional coaching and performance levels.  As well as being highly competitive, the children are also taught the values of sportsmanship and fair play.

"Sport is an essential component of school life. Not only
does it promote good health, but it also teaches children
so much in terms of individual, and team, commitment
and achievement."

Paul Jakubowski
Head of Games/PE

Inter-school fixtures and tournaments, both locally and
regionally, are major parts of the sporting ethos at The
Ryleys. Regular international sports tours and trips are
also arranged. These have included football tours to Northern Italy and rugby tours to Barcelona, and parents are invited to accompany their children on these exciting visits.

In recent years, many pupils have gone on to reach county and regional level in their chosen sports, several achieving sports scholarships at senior independent schools such as Sedbergh School and Ellesmere College.
