Languages
In today's world, the ability to communicate in another language
is essential. As such, Foreign Languages play an important
part in The Ryleys curriculum.
Children begin to learn French with specialist teachers in
Reception and continue through the school until Year 8. Pupils may
also choose to study Latin or Spanish, in addition to French, in
Years 7 and 8.
The Ryleys has established links with the Ombrosa School in
Lyon, and each year in June a group of Year 5 French pupils will
stay with The Ryleys families for 3 weeks.
In Years 7 and 8 pupils look forward to a week-long residential
trip organised every year to Normandy.
Our aim is that every child who leaves The Ryleys, in Year 6 or
Year 8, has a sound understanding of how languages work, a cultural
appreciation of the countries studied, and a firm
linguistic basis from which to progress in the future.
If you would like to find out more about languages at The
Ryleys, or to arrange to come and see us, call our school secretary
