THE RYLEYS SCHOOL PLANTS, 'ROOTS AND SHOOTS IN BOOTS' FOR THE RHS FLOWER SHOW AT TATTON PARK
The Ryleys School in Alderley Edge will be attending this week's
RHS Flower Show at Tatton Park to take part in the Cheshire schools
growing competition; ' The Wonderful World of Vegetables '.
With no less than 50 brightly coloured Wellington boots planted
with all kinds of vegetables.
The competition stipulates that
vegetables must be planted in recyclable containers and be planted
from seed.
"We've got the whole Junior School;
Reception through to year 2, planting seeds in the Wellington boots
the children have brought into school," said Annette Jacobsen, who,
together with Sue Jenkins, takes the children for gardening
sessions throughout the year in the school allotment.
"The boys really enjoy planting, caring
for and eating the crops. We have planted all kinds of varieties of
vegetables and edible flowers in various colours and sizes of
Wellingtons, there are carrots, aubergines, tomatoes, cauliflowers,
lettuce and courgettes to name but a few.
The competition is voted for by the
general public over the course of the show and results will be
announced on the final day of the show.
