THE £1100 CHARITY BIG BREAKFAST AT THE RYLEYS SCHOOL
If you're a premiership footballer, a
hearty breakfast might be the best way to start any day, but for
Manchester United goalkeeper Edwin Van der Sar it was about
spending time with his son Joe and helping to raise money for
Cancer Research.
Every year The Ryleys School in
Alderley Edge provides a Big Breakfast for pupils, siblings, staff
and parents to raise money for charity. It's an event that's in its
sixth year and to date has raised in excess of £7000. This year's
total of £1100 was donated to Cancer Research.
"We cooked 400 pancakes all made by our
own mums, which disappeared during the course of the morning, there
was not one left," said Pat Barrett, Headmaster, The Ryleys
School.
"On top of that, there were 300 bacon
sandwiches, served together with 200 sausages, 100 muffins, 100
pain au chocolates and around 100 croissants - all eaten up by
around 300 hungry pupils, siblings and parents and washed down with
an unlimited supply of tea, coffee and juice.
"It's one of the most popular events in
the school calendar and it's easy to see why; it involves parents
helping out - not only supplying produce, but helping to cook,
serve and clear up afterwards. Siblings are also more than welcome
and even I get involved in the cooking - it's a team effort."
The morning began at 7.45am and
finished at 9.15am and went very smoothly thanks to Horseshoe Farm
which donated most of the produce for this year's event.
