Extra Curricular

Outings

An integral part of the school curriculum is the many visits and outings that supplement, enhance and promote classroom learning. In the Junior School, classes make at least one visit each term to somewhere linked to the topic being studied.

This could be a museum, a castle or to a sea life centre, for example. In the Middle and Senior School, outings and visits are subject-linked, adding to the learning experience and bringing classroom studies to life in a real and practical way.

However, some outings are better described as expeditions, and these too are an important element in the children's experience.

These include trips such as the Rua Fiola expedition, held each year for pupils in Years 6, 7 and 8 (although sometimes younger), to a small Scottish island near Oban.

Here the children learn, among other things, survival skills and even undertake an overnight bivouac, building their own shelter and finding their own food!

Other activites are purely for pleasure, these include visits to the theatre each Christmas to watch a professional children's production.
