About the School

Organisation

The Ryleys is organised in four stages:  the 'Nursery'; the 'Junior' School (equating to Key Stage 1), the 'Middle' School (Years 3 and 4) and the 'Senior' School (Years 5 to 8), but the parts are indivisible, each stage leading on to the next seamlessly as the children progress through their education.

The year groups and ages are as follows:

Nursery

  • 3 - 4 years

Junior School

  • Reception 4 - 5 years
  • Year 1 5 - 6 years
  • Year 2 6 - 7 years

Middle School

  • Year 3 7 - 8 years
  • Year 4 8 - 9 years

Senior School

  • Year 5 9 - 10 years
  • Year 6 10 - 11 years
  • Year 7 11 - 12 years
  • Year 8 12 - 13 years

When pupils enter the Middle and Senior School they are increasingly taught by subject specialists and the pastoral role of the class teacher is taken over by a Tutor, who is responsible for the children's welfare and progress.
