About the School

Gifted & Talented

"Pupils learn best when they are interested, involved and appropriately challenged by their work - when they are engaged with their learning."
DCSF 2009

Our approach to gifted and talented pupils reflects the school's general philosophy towards all of its pupils, which is to maximise their abilities and help them to achieve their full potential. Gifted & Talented children are defined as those who have one or more abilities developed significantly ahead of their year group or have the potential to develop these abilities.

'Gifted' is generally defined as the top 5-10% of the school population in academic subjects and 'Talented' the top 5-10% in other subjects such as sport, music, art or drama.

The learning challenges and the expertise of our teaching staff ensure that individual needs are met, with all of our pupils have the opportunity to discover and nurture new skills. Extremely high standards are set and achieved in a safe and secure environment.

The Ryleys School is also a registered test centre for the World Class Tests in mathematics and problem solving, which is at the heart of World Class Arena. This is an international initiative designed to identify and assess gifted and talented students around the world.
